Maria Munir
Chartered Counselling Psychologist & EMDR Therapist
Hello and welcome to my website! I’m Maria, a Counselling Psychologist offering psychological therapy. I work in a compassionate and caring way to provide you with a safe space to explore and process experiences, drawing from evidence-based psychological interventions. I offer a free, no-obligation consultation where you have the opportunity to ask questions about the therapy process, how it works, and what you might expect from sessions. This also gives you a chance to determine if I am the right therapist for you.

FAQS
This is a free 15 minute no obligation call for you to tell me a little about yourself and ask any questions you have about therapy. It gives you a chance to see if I am the right fit therapist for you and for me to find out about what you’d like to get out of the sessions.
If you would like to proceed with booking your first session, get in touch by email or text. We will arrange mutually convenient day, time and location to meet for the assessment, I will send you a therapy agreement and client registration to read and complete.
The initial session is an assessment to explore the presenting issue. The assessment can sometimes last for 2-3 sessions as we explore your history and make sense of how your experiences shape you today. We build a map together to understand what maintains your difficulties and this helps to plan the treatment.
Throughout our work, we will have regular reviews where I will discuss with you your understanding of the problem, treatment plan, therapeutic objectives, and your view of the possible outcomes of treatment. The regular review progress helps us to determine the effectiveness and duration of our work together. If at any point during our work, I assess that I am not effective in helping you reach your therapeutic goals, I will discuss this with you and terminate our work. If at any point during our work, you feel ready to pause or terminate sessions, you have every right to do so. You are invited to let me know so I can help you prepare for an ending.
No, I do not provide out of hours assistance. If you need additional support between sessions you can contact your GP, the Samaritans Helpline: 116 123 or your local A&E.
I adhere to BPS and HCPC’s confidentially policy. However there are exceptions to confidentiality, therapists are required by law to break confidentiality in certain circumstances, including 1) when there is a reasonable suspicion of abuse; 2) when a client presents a danger to themselves or others, 3) there is a risk that clients may break the law. If I become concerned about your personal safety, or the possibility of you harming someone else, I may need to contact an agency such as law enforcement, your GP or emergency contact whose name you have provided.
My professional body requires me to keep therapy records- these are brief summaries. The session summaries are anonymised and kept separately to your personal information collected on the Therapy Agreement (on a different server). The information is limited to your contact details, medication, contact with other health professionals, a record of sessions attended, missed or cancelled appointments. I am both the Data Controller and the Data Processor for the information I store about you. I am a registered Data Controller and Data Processor and abide by the regulations imposed by such procedures. If you have any further concerns, which are not addressed, then you should contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) or telephone 0303 123 1113.
No, I am not able to prescribe medication. Please consult your GP first for assistance with this.
